An insight into what emotional meltdowns look and feel like

For anyone wondering what it feels like for our kids struggling with emotional regulation, here’s a little insight to my afternoon…. I was staying at my bestfriends place for the weekend with my daughter, they have an elderly dog who is just gorgeous. She regularly sits on the lounge with me. Today I went to sit next to her and she wouldn’t move over a little bit so I cried, 2 minutes later i tried to move her again this time she let out a yelp like I’d hurt her (I didn’t, she just didn’t want to move), I tried so hard to not cry, my bestfriends brother tried so hard to stop me from crying saying it was okay she was fine, but I just absolutely lost it. Full blown meltdown to the point I had to take myself home. At the age of 27 I had a meltdown because the dog wouldn’t move over on the lounge. Things like this are completely out of my control, my emotions are completely out of my control. For a neurotypical they’d think of a solution, forget about it or even use other emotions… but for us neurodiverse it really isn’t that easy. So when your little ones are in the midst of meltdowns over things that you may think are tiny, insignificant or unimportant to us these are major inconveniences. Patience is the absolute key 💙

Thank you so much for giving us an insight and sharing your experiences. I know personally, I find it so valuable to hear how neurodiverse people (like yourself), experience the world. I’ve always said, I wish I could read my daughters mind, even just for 5 mins, to try and understand how to help her more. This is the next best thing! So thank you 🙏

Thank you so much- I follow summer Farrelly and Joe James (just to name my top two) as I feel getting insight is essential to understanding. The world needs more understanding, and to do that we need more people like you who are open to sharing their experiences, as some are simply unable to at this stage ♥️♥️♥️
