Hey guys, I said l would give a debrief from the audio room today about therapy play at home. We discussed… ~ Play being the forefront of all therapy ~ Lowering expectations ~ Using items from around the home and recyclable materials instead of flash $$ therapy toys ~ Letting siblings join in ~ Being organised ~ Incorporating visuals to manage frustration We then went on to discuss dressing and sensory needs. Faboulous Tabatha mentioned how distraction through the oral sensory system can be super helpful. Having the brain focus on a different sense to take away some of the struggle with dressing can be beneficial eg. Chewing on gum while getting dressed. This led into me saying how l just made a sensory necklace for Willow as she has been seeking out chewing more so lately. She was quite chuffed with her necklace when she got home, I actually think it really helped with the ‘after school explosive comedown of emotions’ too.
