What can I expect at an IEP meeting?

Next week I have a meeting with my Son's teacher for his first ever IEP! What sort of Goals do you make? At the top of my head all I can think about is improving his hand writing, working on him not hating maths so much and maybe concentration levels?? No idea if I'm on the right path or not??? Any info appreciated 😍

When I did them when teaching, they varied so much depending on each child. It could focus on behaviour, sociability or academics. I just asked my husband who’s still a working teacher and that’s how his are still done, he said some he has seen have been 20 pages long. He said all accomodations should be made to meet what you want those goals to be.

Yes linking to NDIS goals is helpful. Also think about specific learning goals for school. Great advice from Sarah too! One of Immy’s current IEP goals is for her to learn about Safe vs Unsafe behaviour as she keeps running across roads and car parks to get to disability vans. So they work on the concept in the classroom and the practical component when out. Good luck hun!

Ours is more about adjustments that are required such as . If a class is to be held outside E needs to be able to sit in the shade on a chair not the ground, E needs to sit in the same seat each lesson , E is allowed to wear a hat and headphones in class to help her regulate, If E is distressed she is permitted to go to the library and work independently, Things that remind her teachers of what triggers her and how to calm her down .

I just love that he is doing that well this year that you get to have this conversation.. I keep ours very basic and relevant to something social emotional self help and a few academic. They do however link to our Ndis Goals a little but not entirely. This is great mumma 🥰🥰
