How to talk to your child about their Diagnosis.
With all of the awareness that Autism now has, I am begining to think about how to talk my almost 8 yr old son about his ASD diagnosis. Any suggestions or experiences people want to share?

My kids have been aware of their disabilities from the start of the journey, although my son wasn't even 2 and my daughter was 7. I have always spoken openly, things that I have found to be helpful is looking up famous people who are Autistic. So one great example is the creator of Pokemon is Autistic and the kids thought that was really cool.
Thank you for the above comments. This is something I’ve been struggling to help my daughter with also. My youngest is quite at peace with his diagnosis and is a high functioning uni student. My daughter however seems ashamed of her diagnosis and lacks self esteem and does not like recognising ir discussing her diagnosis. Thank you Stacey for this post! 💗 much love to you.
To be honest, I haven't thought about it! We just involve them in appointments and let them know why we are going to appointments, what they are for and make sure (as they are able) we make them part of the discussions.
We do the same as Lauren. Nothing is hidden and they are involved.
I actually wrote a blog about this 🧡 https://www.kindship.com.au/blog/should-i-tell-my-child-about-their-autism-diagnosis
