Finding a tribe for teenagers

Do you have teenagers? Trying to think of ways to assist my daughter with finding her tribe… she feels like she doesn’t have any friends. As with most teenagers- spends a lot of time in her room online… any tips to facilitate building a friendship group/meeting other teenagers? We are in Coffs Harbour so don’t have GOOD ‘hang out’ spots :( she is PDA so we have tried girl guides, organised sports, dancing etc. just gets anxious with expectations…

Is there a game in particular she likes playing online? I know Joanne’s boys started socialising with Paula’s son through a particular online game. Perhaps starting there and then moving onto an in person thing?

Actually my daughter used to participate in an online zoom connect session that was through a mental health charity for kids that are either dealing with mental health or someone in their family have mental health as well. They have been really good for her. They do online groups and have some in person stuff as well.

she did an online craft thing with other teens, but anything organised becomes a demand and causes anxiety:(

We go to a singing group at a local music school and also a drama group . My daughter likes the routine times to go to these groups but doesn’t spend time with these friends outside these environments. She prefers to be home and talk to friends she has made online .

yeah, my daughter is actually a really good singer and we tried a local singing group, but she didn’t like them telling her what to sing :(

Three years ago we set up a group for girls that found themselves challenged by forming sustainable friendships. We meet weekly, with the support of the local community house and take part in market stalls to fundraise day excursions, trips to the local serpentarium and other activities. It has been a hard slo to get off the ground, but many of the girls have formed positive friendships, built self-esteem, and become more socially aware. Maybe there is something similar at your local Neighbourhoid House or youth network?
