Insight into sensory food issues

Over the last couple weeks my sensory issues with food have become more prominent and I honestly thought I was going insane. The feel of certain foods, when I chew them, it’d completely turnt me off things that I’d usually love. Recently I’ve sought out crunch, it sounds weird but I won’t eat anything without the right amount of crunch 😂 And when I find something that is just perfect, i fixate on it. So over the last week I’ve been living off corn thins, cream cheese and tomatoes (ps I hate tomatoes but since this recent sensory issue I’m obsessed). I’d never really paid a lot of attention to my sensory issues because I’m so focused on my daughters but as of recently they’ve become a lot more instense; is it because of all my recent stress? I have no clue but at 27 I’m still learning what they mean and how to deal with them, and it’s a struggle. So I can’t imagine how my 8 year old feels.

Hey thanks for sharing, your descriptions help me understand my son’s changes in foods. He often ears snitty & i will buy 4, cook each one, smother in his sauce but he won’t eat them! It makes sense now👍🏽

I’m glad my insights help you with your son. I know personally it is a huge struggle so I can’t imagine how your son feels. They way our sensory needs change and so abruptly is a shock to our systems because what we once loved we absolutely despise now and it could simply just be the texture of it. I used to love schnitzels and now I honestly can’t eat them because I can’t stand the texture of chicken at the moment. Every now and then I’ll try it again but I gag 😂 When I’m going through stages like this I tend to make up what I call a “sensory mix plate” and it involves little amounts of things I normally like with all types of textures to try and figure out where I’m at. With my current crunch fixation I have a fridge full of Asian salad because it’s full of crunch and flavour. But who knows next week I may be in a soft foods stage. We’re forever changing and I know it’ll be hard for you to keep up with it but you’re doing a wonderful job mumma ❤️
