4 hour cognitive assssment and they tell me “ he falls just below the line “

My eldest (10 years old ) has struggled so much with school . His only diagnoses is anxiety and ADD ( not hyper ) . We I have been investigating speech language disorders , ASD, Intellectual Disabiliy, ODD, dysgraphia , Dislexia etc . Today the psyc told me “ although he is delayed in all areas he doesn’t meet enough of the criteria for any of the above “ . When they just fall below the line but not low enough is makes things / support / school so much harder. Does anyone else have a child who is severely delayed in many areas but not enough to get a diagnosis of anything ? What did you do to support your child ? Thank you

Yes I’m in this category with one of mine. He always manages to scrape through by 1-2 marks and is “borderline”. It’s so hard to get support. A diagnosis for ASD should not be based on that alone. Does he have impairments in communication or repetitive behaviors is social issues even if speech is ok? . I think you only need to meet 3 out of 4 criteria. (It’s been a while since I looked at DSM IV

My 11 yr old daughter has always been sitting borderline for nearly everything since she was about 5 years old. We just keeping testing her every couple of years to see where her levels are at. I have also just been trying to work with her when I can with the knowledge I have sort out myself. It is extremely frustrating

So tricky! One of mine is like this, it's listed as 'some delays, monitor in 12 months' in her reports. Very tricky- does the school psych have any advice?
