What’s been the best pet for your child with disabilities?

We have just bought our first home and can finally now get a pet. Our kids, ages 13 & 14 are soooo excited. It won’t be for a couple of months .. but I’m curious - what’s been the best pet in your family?! Dog/Cat/Other. We are looking at cavoodle or something similar.. mainly due to allergies, size, personality and our kids aren’t super active so can’t have something that needs constant walks etc. mainly a companion buddy for our very anxious 13 yo girl. Possibly even a cat?

Can you try taking the kids to a pound and seeing how the react to certain sizes of dogs, and breeds and perhaps also a cat, this could help you decide what would be the pet they would like? We did that before committing to buying a pet.

I have kids 11 & 13 with allergies and we have a toy poodle. She is the best dog! She is easy to handle (4kg) and has a lovely nature for my timid girl and playful boy. She’s super smart too, so can understand a lot. She does require a haircut and bath every 2 months that costs me about $65. We absolutely love her.

My boys love their Cavalier and Blue Cattle Dog. Two totally opposite dogs and my son often gravitates to one or the other depending on his needs at the time. Definitely do your research to see what would suit you all best.

We have always been dog people. First we had a lab and now a staffy x bulldog both completely different personalities and needs but both have been the girls best friends ❤️
