Have your say about NDIS

A big part of our Kindship vision, is helping our community build skills to advocate for their rights and needs. We would love to kick this off with a group submission to the Disability Royal Commission (DRC). WHAT IS THE DRC? An independent commission set up to investigate the experiences of people with disabilities in our community and country. Anyone can make a submission in any format they feel comfortable expressing themselves. The commission want to hear all experiences. WHATS OUR PLAN TO WORK TOGETHER? Let’s create a series of group interviews/experiences over zoom where we share our personal & family experiences with the NDIS. Basically we will jump on a video call, and discuss our experiences with a range of NDIS issues e.g - Plans being cut - The scheduled review process - Reviews and AAT - Overall NDIS experiences - Positive impact of NDIS when right supports are obtained Kindship will then submit these video interviews as submissions to the DRC so we can “have our say” and influence the changes that need to happen in this industry. WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE INVOLVED? Comment below ⬇️ and we will keep you informed of when these sessions will go ahead and how to share your experiences. Together, we can share our experiences, what works, what’s not and what needs urgent change 🙌🏻

I have sent so much feedback, followed by NDIS doing the opposite, that I only have emojis left. 😳 😬 🙊 🤔 😡 🙄 But, I do feel that parents with children rocking extra chromosomes and other children with a more commonly known diagnosis having reduced therapy funding have a solid shot at making a difference. Feel free to add in Allie on Kindship says “The new DSM-5-TR understands the effects and importance of functional impact separate from other diagnostic criteria. For the NDIS to operate equitably across both diagnosed and undiagnosed individuals requiring speech, occupational or physical therapy — a category approving functional impact and therapeutic needs must exist with greater reliance on the recommendations of therapy providers who work directly with the individual.”
