Finding the right supports at school for children with disabilities

It’s so magic when you find the right supports for your child. We have been so blessed to have our daughter in an amazing specialist Autism school since she was 4. They embrace who she is and work with her strengths. She really loves spelling and numbers. Yesterday she smashed this spelling activity on the interactive whiteboard and she was so excited and proud of herself. Her teacher sent me a video and immy was squealing with delight after each correct answer. This is the power of a strengths based approach to educating our kiddos. I hope one day every school adopts these concepts and strategies 🥰 Our kids are amazing. All they need are the right supports to thrive 🧡

This is wonderful , I have found working very closely with the learning support at our school they are trying really hard to support our daughter in a mainstream environment. They haven’t had a student with my daughters needs continue into senior school , they usually drop out or change schools by year 11 . My daughter is learning from the school but the school is also learning from her and she is paving the way for students that are younger than her in this school . Makes me proud as a family knowing we are helping our daughter but also other families . It wouldnt be possible without the teaching staff being so willing to make accomodations for us as well

This is absolutely beautiful. We also had this first hand experience with our son. He was really struggling in main stream school (and they struggled to support his journey, not their fault, but due to lack of trained people available), but moving to specialised school was the best decision we made. I agree, there was a stigma initially, but we realised that our son’s development and growth is top priority than what people or friends might think otherwise. We see lot of positive impact the school has on our son, and that’s what matters at the EOD. His school also shares daily updates and wins, which is a wonderful feeling to go through.

We didn’t qualify for a support unit so we’ve had to find our own path , I find it really interesting and inspiring following everyone’s unique journey .

♥️ I was all for inclusion in mainstream, but the difference now my son has started at a unit is remarkable!
