ADHD medication

So today was a bad one. My son has been on ADHD meds for 6 months now. We havnt told all family members. As I knew it would be a mixed reception. We have had a medical emergency over the past few days and hubby has other commitments today.. so had to give in and tell a family member, who is pretty much the only one that can help out, However is very anti meds... So I pretty much got a tirade of he doesn't need meds, he needs to be told no more. He will get addicted and how I jump on the use of drugs quickly. I tried to explain how beneficial it has been. Also explained that the use of meds were the last resort... when hubby got home. He got told off as well.. Sorry just needed to vent. Feeling crappy.

Some people simply don’t understand the benefits, would they deny insulin to someone with diabetes? There are many research papers out there that explain the benefits, not just in the moment, but for life long mental health. It’s hard when family don’t support you.

Don’t let people talk you out of what is right for your family . It may not be right for them but each family is unique and all judgement should be left at the door . Keep listening to your gut and do what’s right for you .

I’m so sorry this has happened. It’s sad when people can’t see the good these medications can do. My daughter takes anxiety medication and it certainly wasn’t an easy decision to come to but it has made a huge difference to not only her life, but ours too. Sending love x

You know the best thing for you and your son need. I’m sorry to hear that happened during a medical emergency, that would have been hard.
